François is known for an acute sensitivity to materials and interior details, shaped by lifelong exposure to haute design. His prolific career as a magazine photographer has provided the public access to extraordinary locations that would otherwise have been impossible to experience, and has produced seductive images that reveal his privileged encounters with some of Modernism’s greatest tastemakers.
Francois work is rich with intimate, deceptively casual views that touch on themes of memory, history, and high art, and convey his own quiet awe in the presence of distinguished spaces.
Lives and works between New York, Paris and Arles. François studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and soon after began working for the Decoration International. He moved to New York City where he began regular commissions for American Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ ,AD, Wall Street Journal and The New York Time magazine
His work for these publications established him as the most prolific and well known interior and architectural photographers of our time, as well as forming longtime collaborations with Fabien Baron and Alex Lieberman to name a few.
Francois’ sophisticated style and refined technique has attracted advertising clients such as Armani, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint-Laurent, Calvin Klein Personally, Francois is fascinated by the artist and their creative dwelling, and has brought this to fruition in his photographs of the studios of Jean-Charles Blais, Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Julian Schnabel, and the heritage of Beuys.
